چکیده

The standard thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) test (200 μg) with synthetic TRH is no longer used commonly for the detection of primary hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. The reason has been that this test has been replaced by the development of more sensitive thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) assays, and hence suppression or elevation of TSH has been regarded as a sufficient criterion for the diagnosis of thyroid dysfunction in conjunction with measurements of free thyroid hormones.1

مقایسه سطح سرمی TSH IRMA با TRH test در افراد سالم مشکوک به ساب‌کلینیکال هیپرتیروئیدی بیمارستان شریعتی و امام ، 82-1381

Background: Sub clinical hyperthyroidism is a state of subnormal serum TSH and T3,T4 within normal range, although usually without overt clinical manifestation but many disastrous complications especially in senile patient. In Iranian people, serum TSH is generally assayed by IRMA method. This study is aimed to determine the value of low serum TSH in these patients, better management and decisi...

Diagnostic accuracy of basal TSH determinations based on the intravenous TRH stimulation test: An evaluation of 2570 tests and comparison with the literature

BACKGROUND Basal TSH levels reflect the metabolic status of thyroid function, however the definition and interpretation of the basal levels of TSH is a matter of controversial debate. The aim of this study was to evaluate basal TSH levels in relation to the physiological response to i.v. TRH stimulation. METHODS A series of 2570 women attending a specialized endocrine unit were evaluated. A s...

Repetitive administration of thyrotropin-releasing hormone results in small elevations of serum thyroid hormones and in marked inhibition of thyrotropin response.

Repetitive administration of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) to human subjects was used to produce small elevations of endogenous serum triiodothyronine (T(3)) and thyroxine (T(4)) levels and thereby to determine the effect of these small elevations on the serum thyrotropin (TSH) response to subsequent doses of TRH. Each subject received 13 consecutive doses of 25 mug TRH at 4-h intervals. ...

The Pituitary-Thyroid Axis in Acromegaly

The pituitary-Thyroid axis of 12 Acromegalic patients was evaluated by measurement of the concentration (Total and free of thyroxine T4, T3 and revers T3 (rT3) and TSH, GH and prolactin before and after in stimulation with TRH. Using an ultrasensitive method of TSH measurement (IRMA) basal serum TSH levels of patients (0.76, 0.07-l.90mlU/L) were found slightly but significantly (P < 0.01), low...

Normal thyrotrophin response to intravenous thyrotrophin releasing hormone administration: the best index of optimal L-thyroxine therapy in primary hypothyroidism.

Normalization of basal thyrotrophin (TSH) level is used as the endpoint in L-thyroxine (L-T4) therapy of primary hypothyroidism. However, several reports have questioned the reliability of this index because of seasonal variation of TSH. Therefore, we studied 85 consecutive patients with primary hypothyroidism over a period of 3.5 y. In these patients, TSH response (delta TSH) to intravenous th...
